Kempinski Hotels has announced plans to expand its portfolio of luxury hotels in Africa. With two new properties opened in Kenya in 2013, Kempinski looks to add five more hotels to its African portfolio in the next year.

Amid ongoing expansion in the region, Kempinski Hotels has announced the appointment Bugra Berberoglu to the role of senior vice president, regional operations, India, Middle East & Africa. Berberoglu was promoted from his position as the general manager of the landmark Abu Dhabi hotel, Emirates Palace, which is managed by Kempinski.

Kempinski Hotels, the oldest European luxury hotel group, has signed an agreement with Shanghai Suncuba to take over the management of the Gran Meliá Hotel Shanghai in Pudong, Shanghai. Opened in February 2010, the hotel was rebranded as Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai earlier and became the group’s 18th property in China.
