Delta and SkyTeam Issue Statement of Support for Japan Airlines
Delta Air Lines and SkyTeam today issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Japan Airlines (JAL) has entered into court-led financial restructuring under the guidance of the Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corporation of Japan (ETIC).

JAL’s corporate restructuring will proceed swiftly under sound procedures through the combination of receiving support from ETIC and in-court corporate reorganization proceedings. Commercial transaction claims and the frequent flyer miles will be fully protected.
JAL files for bankruptcy protection
JAL has filed for court-led restructuring and bankruptcy protection with the Tokyo District Court. The Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. of Japan, a quasi-governmental turnaround agency currently working on the wide ranging financial problems at Japan Airlines Corp. revealed the bankruptcy proposal.

Japan Airlines and Mexicana to increase code share routes
From January 14, 2010, Japan Airlines will expand its services between Los Angeles and the Mexican city of León/Bajío (Guanajuato) and between San Francisco and Mexico City by adding its “JL” code on flights operated by Mexicana.
JAL shares plunge further
Shares in Japan Airlines fell a further 80% today during trading in Japan following a 45% drop yesterday (Tuesday 12) as bankruptcy looks inevitable. The stricken carrier’s shares are almost worthless at 7Yen after the Japanese Government indicated that it would allow the flag carrier to slip into administration as soon as Tuesday (January 19).
