Tenth Airbus A330-200 joins Iberia fleet as Tokyo flights prepare for debut
Iberia’s tenth A330-200 has joined the Spanish carrier’s fleet, registered as EC-MNL and christened ‘Tokio’, in honour of the Japanese capital, one of the Spanish airline’s new destination. Flights to Japan will be launched on October 18th with three return flights each week.
Iberia overhauls 2017 summer flights
At the beginning of the summer season of 2017, the Iberia Group is adding new destinations, as well as more capacity on some long-haul routes, while changing the operational model on others. On March 26th, Iberia will launch Madrid-Basel flights every day except Thursday, making the city the Spanish airline’s third destination in Switzerland.
Iberia unveils new premium economy cabin
Iberia has unveiled its new premium economy cabin, to be available on 37 of its long-haul aircraft, starting during the summer season of 2017. The new cabin will be installed on eight Airbus A330-300s and 13 of the airline’s A340-600s, to be modified in the course of the next two years, and will come factory-equipped with it in the 16 new A350-900s to be delivered starting in 2018.
Iberia joins oneworld partners in Japanese joint business
Today Iberia will join Japan Airlines, British Airways and Finnair in their joint business between Europe and Japan. The joint business means that the four airlines will share revenue and cooperate on scheduling and pricing between Japan and Europe, providing customers with more flexible routing options and an attractive range of fares.
Iberia expands joint operations with Japan Airlines
In preparation for expanding the joint business on flights between Europe and Japan to include Iberia, the Spanish airline and Japan Airlines have today announced the start of codeshare arrangements on the routes operated by Iberia between Madrid and Tokyo (Narita). The two airlines will also offer joint fares on applicable routes from October 18th.
Iberia gains Japanese anti-trust immunity alongside oneworld partners
Japan’s ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism has granted an extension of the anti-trust immunity to include Iberia in the joint business between Japan Airlines, British Airways and Finnair. The decision will allow the four airlines to cooperate commercially on flights between Europe and Japan. Iberia is expected to join the existing joint business between the other three airlines as from October 18th, 2016.
International Airlines Group reports robust results despite slump in sterling
International Consolidated Airlines Group has reported second quarter operating profit €555 million before exceptional items for the six months to June 30th, 2016. This compared to an operating profit of profit of €530 million for the same period last year. Removing recently acquired Aer Lingus from the figures would have left IAG with operating profits of €487 million.

Iberia seeks to expand Japanese connections with JAL deal
The first step has been taken to enable Iberia to join British Airways, Finnair and Japan Airlines in their successful joint business on flights between Europe and Japan. JAL has submitted its application to the Japanese ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism seeking antitrust immunity with Iberia to cooperate on flights between Europe and Japan.

Iberia strengthens Uruguay ties with increased Montevideo services
Iberia is strengthening its commitment to Uruguay by increasing the frequency of its non-stop Madrid-Montevideo flights to five per week. Iberia’s new Airbus A330/200 MTOW 242t will be used for Montevideo flights starting in March. Iberia is the first airline to fly the new generation Airbus model, with a maximum capacity on take-off of 242 tonnes and a range of 11,500 kilometres.
Iberia closes in on global aspirations with new routes to Asia
Iberia has announced non-stop flights from Madrid to both Tokyo and Shanghai.Luis Gallego, Iberia chairman, explained: “We have always wanted to be a global airline. “With these routes to Tokyo and Shanghai, we take a step in that direction, while we bring closer our country to two economical and touristic powers such as Japan and China.”
