Holiday Inn in $1 billion revamp
Holiday Inn is injecting $1 billion into refurbishing its 3,300 properties worldwide in a bid to dominate the mid-market hotel sector. The iconic brand unveiled a swish new logo (pictured), revamped public spaces, landscaping, better bedding and even scents. Each Holiday Inn will be obliged to spend an average of $100,000 to $200,000 per property on improvements.
Holiday Inn becomes Olympic sponsor
Holiday Inn has become the office hotel sponsor of 2012 London Olympic Games in a deal worth about £10m. The move comes as part of a £600m three-year relaunch campaign by its parent company InterContinental Hotels, the world’s largest hotel group by the number of rooms.Holiday Inn, which has 42 hotels in London, will also help the Olympics organisers with accommodation during the Games.
Holiday Inns opens US$31m Long Island property
IHG has announced the opening of the 136-room Holiday Inn Long Island City-Manhattan View. The $31 million new-build property is conveniently located in the Queens borough, near all three major NY airports and the New York City subway system.
Chinese hotels call for delay to Holiday Inn US$1bn rebranding
Intercontinental’s rebranding of its Holiday Inn chain is facing a revolt by hoteliers in China over the cost of the US$1bn overhaul.The rebranding is scheduled to be completed by 2010 and is taking place across all 3,000 plus of Holiday Inns around the world, which IHG mainly manages rather than owns. It is investing US$60m towards the programme, with individual owners footing the rest of the bill. Chinese hoteliers are calling for a delay due to tight cash flow.
Holiday Inn brand enters Dominican Republic
InterContinental has announced that it has signed a management agreement with Inverplata S.A. for the new Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Holiday Inn to open in Abu Dhabi
InterContinental will be expanding its portfolio of properties in the UAE with the development of a Holiday Inn Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
