Heathrow extends property compensation scheme for third runway homes

Heathrow has announced plans to extend its property compensation scheme should an additional runway be built at the airport. In May the airport announced plans for 25 per cent above unblighted market value compensation for 750 homes that would be subject to compulsory purchase. Having listened to local residents, Heathrow is now proposing to extend this offer to cover homes that will be in close proximity to a new runway but will not be compulsorily purchased.

Heathrow has seen a 5.3 per cent increase in the volume of cargo in 2014, but new research shows that Brits have little knowledge of the scale and diversity of goods that are exported from the UK. A new study, which was commissioned to coincide with launch of the UK Trade & Investment Export Week, found that 64 per cent of Brits have no idea what the UK exports across the world. The UK is Europe’s second biggest exporter, second only to Germany, and the fifth biggest exporter worldwide.

The interminable examination of airport capacity in the south-east of the United Kingdom reached a new stage earlier, with both London Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport claiming momentum. As one of only a handful of hub airports in the world, London competes with Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam for the transfer traffic which makes daily direct, long-haul routes to emerging markets - predicted to make up nearly half of global GDP by 2050 - viable.

Heathrow Airport Holdings has confirmed it will sell its 100 per cent interest in Aberdeen International Airport Limited, Glasgow Airport Limited and Southampton International Airport Limited to a consortium formed by Ferrovial and Macquarie. The deal is expected to bring the airport operator £1,048 million in cash and assumed debt, payable in full at closing.

Screening for the Ebola virus has begun at London Heathrow Airport, despite doubts over the effectiveness of such a programme. Passengers arriving in the UK from high risk countries will be among the first to undergo the process. Screening for Ebola - which has been most prevalent in western Africa - will start at Terminal 1, before being extended to other terminals, Gatwick airport and Eurostar by the end of the week.

Lufthansa will be relocating its flight operations to the new Terminal 2: The Queen‘s Terminal at London Heathrow Airport from tomorrow.  The move is the latest phase of the process to bring all Star Alliance members under one roof for the first time in Heathrow and sees Lufthansa joining United Airlines, Air Canada, Air China and ANA - the first airlines to move into the new terminal when it opened in June.
