easyJet to cut 20% of Luton flights and axe East Midlands hub
easyJet has announced plans to axe up to 20 percent of flights from its London Luton base as well as close its East Midlands hub. In a move that mirrors Ryanair’s recent hub streamlining, the low-cost carrier said it would look relocate the Luton flights to more “profitable bases”.
easyJet lifts lid on mobile check-in plans
easyJet has revealed plans to introduce mobile check-in using handheld machines by as early as October. The low-cost carrier is also planning mobile scanning of boarding passes in a bid to reduce airport queues and staffing costs.
Ryanair forges ahead of easyJet
Ryanair is forging ahead of easyJet in its battle for the title of Europe’s largest low-cost carrier. The Irish carrier posted a 19 percent growth in traffic, a new monthly traffic record of 6.7m passengers, compared to a 4.3 percent gain, or 4.66m passengers, for its Luton-based arch rival.

easyJet has said that non-UK holidaymakers taking advantage of the strong Euro have left it “resilient” in the global downturn, and expects to be one of the few airlines to turn in a profit this year.
easyJet boardroom resolves spat with Stelios
The long-running battle between the easyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the boardroom over expansion plans is believed to have reached a compromise. At a shareholder’s meeting on Wednesday, the Luton-based carrier is expected to confirm that Sir Stelios is comfortable with its less-aggressive plans.
Europcar and easyJet extend partnership
Europcar and easyJet have renewed their strategic booking partnership to the end of 2011, in a deal that allows easyJet customers to reserve both their flight and their rental vehicle on the easyJet.com website.
easyJet launches Tel Aviv service
easyJet has announced plans for a new six times weekly service between London Luton and Tel Aviv, making it the first low-cost carrier to operate on the route.The new flights will commence operations on 02 November, with fares leading in at £72 one way - about half the current prices for flights between London and Israel.

easyJet has unveiled half-year losses hitting £129.8 million following a £90 million increase in fuel costs but despite the doubling in the deficit for its weaker trading period, the company claims it remains on course to make a profit in the full year.

easyJet is entering the screen scraping fray by initiating legal proceedings against German software provider, InteRes, whose customers include tour operators such as L’TUR, TUI and REWE Touristik, using the “Mercado” booking engine. easyJet claims InteRes has persisted in screen scraping, despite many warnings and in contravention of easyJet’s Acceptable Use Policy.
easyJet unveils new Luton routes
easyJet is starting three new routes from its Luton hub in July - Milan, Mahon and Montpellier, bring the number of services from Luton to 34.The Milan route will start on 6 July and operate six times weekly, the Mahon service will start the same day and run three-times weekly, whilst the Montpellier route will start on 7 July and run three-times weekly.
Changes at top for easyJet
BT chairman, Sir Michael Rake, is joining easyJet as deputy chairman amid an ongoing dispute between founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the board over the low-cost carrier’s expansion strategy.The move follows the resignation of chairman Sir Colin Chandler at the weekend.
