Alaska Railroad hosts annual holiday trains in early December

Cruise holiday tax cut in Alaska
Alaskan governor Sean Parnell has signed legislation cutting the levy on visiting cruise passengers in a move designed to bolster the state’s flagging reputation. Following the decision, the per person tax will drop from $46 to $34.50, with deeper offsets for ships stopping in at least one of two popular ports, Juneau and Ketchikan.
Alaska woos cruise operators with tax cut
Alaska has sought to bolster its position in the international cruise market, with Governor Sean Parnell suggesting a cut in the $50-per-passenger levy on visiting ships. It is hoped the offer will end an acrimonious court case between cruise operators and the state, while also boosting visitor numbers.
Disney announces Alaska cruises
Disney Cruise Line is launching an Alaska programme for the first time in summer 2011. The four-month season of seven-night sailings aboard the Disney Wonder will offer 18 cruises departing out of Vancouver and calling in at a number of ports including Tracy Arm, Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.
