World Travel Awards celebrates in Antalya, Turkey

German flag-carrier Lufthansa, Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa, Mantis Collection, Intercontinental Hotels Groups, Avis, and Kuoni were among the top names to emerge victorious at World Travel Awards 2013 Europe Gala Ceremony.

The event took place at Cornelia, in Antalya, Turkey, this evening.

The industry’s elite, including senior executives of leading travel companies, government ministers and top tourism decision-makers, attended the gala event hailed as the ‘Oscars of the travel industry’ by the Wall Street Journal.

World Travel Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those companies and organisations that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service.

The Gala Ceremony, hosted by Turkish television personality Ece Vahapoglu, also featured a line up of top stars including classical trio Sterling EQ, opera maestro Andrew Andur and the sensational Fire of Anatolia.

Winners included Forte Village Resort, which took the title of Europe’s Leading Resort, and Waldorf Astoria Berlin which was voted Europe’s Leading New Hotel Resort.

Meanwhile Angel’s Peninsular gathered trophies Europe’s Leading Family Resort.

Europe’s Leading Destination went to Yorkshire, the northern county of the UK, while Europe’s Leading Golf Destination was taken by Portugal.

Kuoni was awarded Europe’s Leading Destination Management Organisation while in the airline world Zurich Airport took top honours as Europe’s Leading Airport.

Lufthansa was again voted Europe’s Leading Airline, while Europe’s Leading Low-Cost Airline went to easyJet. 

Gala Ceremony host Cornelia Diamond Resort & Spa took two top awards, walking off with trophies for Europe’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort and Europe’s Leading Luxury Golf Resort & Spa, while sister resort Cornelia Deluxe was voted Turkey’s Leading Golf Resort.

On the water, Norwegian Cruise Lines sailed off with Europe’s Leading Cruise Line, and DFDS Seaways was again recognised as Europe’s Leading Ferry Company.
