Wizz Air opens base in Vienna, Austria

Wizz Air has opened its Austrian base at Vienna Airport with one of its new Airbus A320 aircraft.

The newly allocated aircraft will support the start of operations of five new services from Vienna to the popular destinations: Valencia, Rome Fiumicino, Malta, Bari and Tel Aviv.

More than half a million seats are already on sale from/to Vienna airport on Wizz flights, bringing new affordable travel opportunities, contributing to the local economy, stimulating tourism, while strengthening business partnerships between the European countries.

“We are proud to celebrate the opening of a new Wizz base in Austria at Vienna Airport.

“Wizz Air’s first flights from Vienna started in April and now we are inaugurating another five new services,” said George Michalopoulos, chief commercial officer at Wizz Air.

“By 2019, our new base operations at Vienna will create more than 200 local jobs with Wizz.

“New destinations added to the network mean even greater choice for Wizz’s Austrian passengers to discover Europe at truly low fares through a network of 30 routes to 22 countries.“

The base establishment at Vienna represents a major investment in Austria by Wizz, creating more than 200 direct jobs with the airline by 2019.

With a total investment of $570 million, in the upcoming nine months the airline will continue to increase its operations at Vienna International Airport.

The carrier hopes to become the second largest in Austria in 2019 with a local fleet of five new Airbus aircraft, operating a network of 30 routes from Vienna to 22 countries.
