Wizz Air carried 11 million passengers in 2011, growth of 15%
Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced today that it carried over 11 million passengers in 2011, representing 15% growth year on year. Average load factor reached over 84%, in line with previous years.
The airline opened three new operating bases in 2011: Belgrade in Serbia, Vilnius in Lithuania and Tirgu Mures in Romania. Currently, Wizz Air operates from 15 bases and offers over 200 routes across Europe.
The carrier employs 1,500 people in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Lithuania and Switzerland. In addition, the company has created approximately 11,000 jobs in industries that serve or benefit from Wizz Air’s operation.
“Despite a challenging macro-economic environment, Wizz Air delivered 15% growth in 2011, one of the highest in the European airline industry. Wizz Air is the true champion of great value for money, making air travel affordable and exciting for more and more people every year. We will continue to expand our operations with the addition of more markets and airports to our route network in 2012,” said József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air.
