Surge in mobile bookings for Monarch

Monarch saw overall mobile bookings rise over the festive season for the third consecutive year.

Mobile bookings made on Christmas Day were up 176 per cent year-on-year and 206 per cent year-on-year for Boxing Day bookings.

Monarch saw mobile traffic and use of its mobile app, which now has over 440,000 downloads, jump on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Over these two days traffic was up 44 per cent from last year’s figures.

The newly developed Android app is now available to download with the new iOS app due to be launched in early 2017.

As well as cheap flights and holidays customers have been making the most of Monarch’s zero per cent credit card fees.

The drop in temperature over the festive break is resulting in many customers booking last minute getaways to the sun.

With the big freeze now upon us, the winter sun destinations of Tenerife, Malaga and Faro were the most popular bookings over Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Rob Foulkes, senior marketing and digital manager at Monarch, said: “Mobile conversion rate was significantly up year-on-year on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

“Removing barriers like credit card fees has had a very positive impact on sales over the festive period and customers now feel more confident booking on their mobile than ever before.

“Customers are nearly three times as likely to book on mobile compared to last year with transactions up almost 300 per cent.”
