SUJÁN Rajmahal Palace Jaipur opens November 2014

SUJÁN (www.sujanluxury.com) is delighted to announce the addition of SUJÁN Rajmahal Palace, Jaipur, opening in November 2014 in the heart of the fabled ‘Pink City’.  Set in sprawling gardens, the SUJÁN Rajmahal Palace – with its stunning original marble staircase, intricate chandeliers and mirrored ceilings, will initially comprise 20 suites and rooms, two restaurants, a bar, swimming pool, as well as a SUJÁN Spa.

Originally built in 1729 by the Maharaja of Jaipur, the palace has stood witness to over two hundred years of history.  In 1821, Rajmahal became the official residence of the British Resident Political Officer of Rajputana and in 1958 HH Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II – the celebrated and dashing ‘Jai’ – chose it as his private residence.  Over the decades this remarkable ‘Grande Dame’ has hosted Her Majesty the Queen & the Duke of Edinburgh along with several other members of the British Royal Family. Celebrated personalities such as Jackie Kennedy, Lord & Lady Mountbatten and many of the international ‘jet set’ have been part of the history of the Palace.

SUJÁN will reopen the palace in its latest avatar, completely redesigned and refurbished with vigorous flair by the highly acclaimed and accomplished designer Adil Ahmad.  Specially commissioned for this unique task by The Royal Family of Jaipur, Ahmad is also the Creative Director of Charbagh, GoodEarth.

Ahmad has been inspired by the City Palace, the inner sanctum and current residence of the royal family of Jaipur.  The design elements include the use of traditional royal motifs, family crests, sensuous fabric and old world art pieces.  The combination of classic architecture and the designer’s modern sensibility has culminated in a myriad of hues with a colour palette of soft pastels: blues, greens and pinks and an eclectic sense of style.

The Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur commented: “We are delighted to collaborate with SUJÁN, who has mastered high-end experiential hoteliering over the past 14 years.  Their expertise in bespoke, world-class hospitality, has earned them consistent global acclaim.  I am confident that SUJÁN will ensure that this precious piece of Jaipur’s history will be valued and shared with guests from across the globe.”

Jaisal Singh of SUJÁN said: “This is a milestone for SUJÁN.  We are honoured to have been entrusted with this exceptional palace by HH Rajmata Padmini Deviji of Jaipur and the Royal Family of Jaipur. We will ensure that Rajmahal is revived and once again celebrated; in the true spirit of royal Rajputana.”
