Search underway for missing tourist in Kenya

Police are trying to secure the safe release of a British holidaymaker in Kenya who was kidnapped after her husband was killed is their luxury resort.

David and Judith Tebutt had checked into the five star Kiwayu Safari Village at the beach resort north of Lamu, near the Kenya-Somalia border - just hours before the incident occurred.

According to reports, the gang arrived by speed boat at midnight on Saturday carrying guns and shot Mr Tebbut, 58, who was trying to stop them. They then sped off in their motorboat with Mrs Tebbutt, 56, towards Somalia.n
The Foreign Office confirmed that two British Nationals were attacked overnight and that they are trying to establish more details.

A spokesman said: “We are working to secure the safe and swift release of the British national who has been kidnapped and ask those involved to show compassion and release the individual immediately.

He added: “We have deployed a consular team from our High Commission in Nairobi and are offering all possible support to the family of those involved. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
