Olympics tourism boost thrown into doubt
Commenting on figures from the Office for National Statistics showing a 10% fall in visits to the UK by foreign tourists, Liberal Democrat Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, Don Foster said:
“The Government’s predicted £2bn tourism boost from hosting the Olympics will be thrown into doubt by today’s figures. With 3.3m fewer people visiting these shores last year, any hopes that the massive fall in the pound would increase tourism have been dashed.
“The Government has failed to take tourism seriously, cutting the budget of the body responsible for marketing the UK overseas, and we are now experiencing the results.”
