Kyoto welcomes increase in transatlantic flights

The Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau has welcomed the announcement of a new international flights between Kyoto and the US and Canada.

Japan Airlines recently announced its expansion plans include the addition of a non-stop daily flight between Los Angeles and Kansai International Airport, which will start in March 2015.

And, from May 2015, Air Canada will introduce a direct non-stop service between Vancouver and Kansai International Airport, offering five flights a week.

Kyoto Convention & Visitor Bureau’s international marketing co-ordinator James Widgren explained the new flights will make the city even more accessible for international delegates and bring even more events to the region.

He said: “The city of Kyoto is an attractive destination to organisations looking to hold international events because of its cultural heritage as well as its academic strength.

“We are seeing an increasing number of events being held in Kyoto not only because of our links to academia but because they want their delegates to experience the city’s rich history.

“Infrastructure plays an important role when organisers choose a destination.

“The launch of new flight routes to the US and Canada makes it even easier for people to be part of events in Kyoto thanks to improved accessibility.

“Increasing the number of international delegates to Kyoto will have a positive economic benefit to the whole province and we look forward to welcoming new visitors to the city.”
