Jumeirah-sponsored Rory McIlroy takes US PGA Championship title

Jumeirah-sponsored Rory McIlroy takes US PGA Championship title McIlroy is the first Briton to claim the US PGA title since Jim Barnes won the first two tournaments in 1916 and 1919

Jumeirah-sponsored Rory McIlroy has claimed his second major with a marvellous eight-shot victory in the US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.

Northern Ireland-born McIlroy took the title with a six-under par final round of 66 to finish 13 under for the tournament.

Englishman David Lynn was second.

McIlroy, at 23-years-of-age, became the youngest winner of the tournament since it adopted strokeplay in 1958.

His eight-shot victory was also a new PGA Championship record.

“I don’t think I have let it sink in yet - I am speechless,” McIlroy told supporters at the close of the event.

“It was a great round of golf,” he added.

Rory McIlroy has been sponsored by Jumeirah Group since 2007.

He extended his contract with Jumeirah in 2010 for a further three years.

The Dubai-based luxury hotel group’s connection with the golfing prodigy originated from his hometown of Holywood in Northern Ireland, also home to Jumeirah Group’s former chief financial officer, Alaister Murray.

Spotting his early talent, Jumeirah invested in the young golfer’s career and has followed it with passion ever since.
