Indian Rail announce carrying original ID proof mandatory from February

At present, rail passengers with Tatkal tickets or e-tickets have to carry original proof of Identity during the course of Rail journey. With a view to curb the cases of Rail travel o­n transferred tickets and to secure the interest of the genuine passengers, Indian Railways have introduced the system of carrying original ID proof by all AC class passengers during the journey with effect from 15thFebruary, 2012. Passengers who have booked tickets even from Computerized Passenger Reservation Counters for travel in AC 1stClass,AC II tier, AC III tier, AC Chair car and Executive classes should carry any o­ne of the following proofs of Identity (in original) during their journey from 15th February, 2012 and present it o­n demand to the Travelling Ticket Examiner(TTE).

The list of valid proof of Identity are as under:-

·Voter Photo Identity card issued by Election Commission of India.

·Passport.

·PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department.

·Driving License issued by RTO.

·Photo Identity card having serial number issued by Central /State Government.

·Students Identity Card with photo issued by recognized School/Collage for their students.

·Nationalized Bank Pass book with photograph.

·Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph.

·Unique Identification Card “ Adhar”

Photocopies of the identity proofs will not be accepted. Passengers found travelling in AC classes without identity proof in original or with photocopies of the identity proof will be treated as ticket less passengers and charged accordingly, with effect from 15-02-2012.

In case of passengers who are automatically upgraded by the system from Sleepers Class to Air-Conditioned class and in case of passengers who are upgraded o­n-board by way of the payment of difference of fare are not required to carry the proof of identity.
