Getaround launches new iPhone app

Getaround, the leading peer-to-peer car sharing service, is excited to announce a brand new, fully redesigned iPhone app. The new app will make it even easier for Getaround users to share cars with people nearby through a few new, key features and significant improvements to speed and reliability. The new app comes as part of the company’s resolve to make car sharing a widespread and accepted behavior amongst drivers.

“Since day one, our goal has been to empower people to car share everywhere,” said Jessica Scorpio, Founder of Getaround. “We believe that this app is the first step in making car sharing so easy and seamless that it is truly available to people everywhere. The easier we make it to share cars on the go, the sooner we will see real shifts in the way people think about car ownership.”

Beyond a visual redesign and new API designed to make the app faster and more reliable, the Getaround team has added a few key features to this release with plans for many more in the near future. New features include the ability to search and browse cars without signing in, new filter options to find the right car every time, a totally redesigned map view and the ability to instantly rent cars in just a few taps.

Getaround’s goal is simple: with nearly one billion cars on the road across the world, the company is maximizing what already exists. Getaround gives people a chance to share their cars with others nearby, ultimately offsetting the cost of car ownership for owners, and giving renters a convenient way to rent a car of their choice close to home for an affordable price.

Following Getaround’s launch in San Francisco in May 2011, the company has seen dramatic growth including launching in four additional cities, more than quadrupling the staff and raising $14 million in Series A funding.
