First International Film Festival in Panama

Panama offers many advantages for the film industry, including diversity of geography, amazing landscapes, tax incentives as well as high end infrastructure. There have been many renown films that were shot in Panama, including the famous Quantum of Solace –  James Bond,  that showed some of the best areas of Panama, such as Casco Antiguo, Colon and the Panama Canal.

Panama will inaugurate its First International Film Festival in April 2012 which will receive 150 journalists and movie stars from all over the world.

The IFF Panama will have a creative advisory board led by Panamanian filmmakers and people from the local entertainment industry. At the same time, the board will have the privilege of having the participation of the world-renowned Panamanian actor and singer Rubén Blades.

As a preamble, the IFF organization has announced that Panama just had very important presence at the Toronto International Film Festival. A ceremony was organised in Toronto to welcome the most renowned Panamanian artists. A show about the best of Panama was also featured before an audience of 1,400 international journalists, dozens of movie stars and filmmakers from every continent that had the opportunity to learn more about Panama and why it is an ideal destination for filmmakers.

The General Advisor of the Panama Tourist Authority (ATP), Ernesto Orillac said: “The International Film Festival to take place in Panama in 2012 is another unique opportunity to show the world the amazing things that are happening in Panama. Our country has different regions with incredible contrasts and colours and to show it through films that are seen around the world is for us a great way of promoting the beauties of Panama”.
