Eurostar trains cancelled as fire breaks out in Channel Tunnel
The Channel Tunnel has closed until further notice after a fire broke out on a lorry, which has resulted in severe disruption for thousands of passengers.
Eurostar has suspended all its Saturday services and trains have returned to their stations.
It has told people expecting to travel to postpone their journeys and not go to the station.
“We are sorry but we are unable to run any further trains today because Eurotunnel has been closed due to smoke detected in the north tunnel.
“If you were planning to travel today, please postpone your journey and do not come to the station. Check back here later today for updates regarding tomorrow’s services.”

The Eurotunnel service, which operates vehicle carrier trains through the tunnel, tweeted:
“Due to an incident in the tunnel, all departures are currently suspended in both directions. We will update you with more info shortly.”
It is thought that the fire broke out at the French end of the tunnel. No-one was injured in the incident.
