CN donates $37,500 to American Red Cross supporting relief efforts

CN announced it has made a donation of $37,500 to the American Red Cross in support of the agency’s 2011 relief efforts throughout the Ohio Valley and Southern United States. This sum represents a combination of funds donated by employees and a corporate match.

This spring and continuing through the summer, the Mississippi River Valley and Southern United States have been hit with a series of natural disasters including historic flooding, deadly tornadoes, and in recent weeks, destructive hurricanes.

These storms and floods have left widespread damage in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois. In the Southern Illinois, the high waters of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers forced the mandatory city-wide evacuation of Cairo, Ill.

“On behalf of the American Red Cross and the thousands of people impacted by the natural disasters of 2011, I would like to thank the employees at CN for this generous donation,” said Sandra Webster, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Little Egypt Service Center in Southern Illinois. “This donation not only represents support for the many families rebuilding their lives following the floods and storms, but is also a testament to the caring and humanity of everyone at CN who have mobilized to help others in their time of need.”

Claude Mongeau, president and chief executive officer of CN, said: “The devastating impact of this year’s floods and tornadoes was a shock for us all. CN is glad to be able to help the American Red Cross address some of the immense human suffering caused by these disasters.”
