Gulf Air Offers Self-service Electronic Check-ins
Gulf Air
has become the first Middle East airline to enable passengers to go through the check-in phase all by themselves and even assign their own seats.
Through a combination of Amadeus
and IBM
technology, Gulf Air has introduced sophisticated, self-service electronic check-in kiosks at Abu Dhabi, Muscat, and Bahrain international airports, to speed up and simplify check-in for its passengers. The self-service check-in kiosks, branded “E Check-in” are operating alongside `traditional` check-in desks.
Owned by the Kingdom of Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, Gulf Air operates a network covering 45 cities in 33 countries from Europe to Asia.
Gulf Air`s new self-service check-in kiosks use the latest IBM technology and integration services with a touch-screen user-interface that ensures a simplified process for passengers checking in with hand luggage, in all classes.
To speed up check-in, Amadeus and IBM have built the necessary link between the kiosks and Amadeus’ airline-departure control system. This allows the kiosk to “recognise” the passenger, pull up their booking details on the touch screen, re-confirm subsequent modification - including choice of seating - and ultimately, issue a boarding pass for them.
