ABTA Elects New President

The Association of British Travel Agents

(ABTA) is pleased to announce that John Harding of Travelscene has been elected as the President for 2003/2004. He was successful in an election where the other candidates were Gwyn Hughes [P&O Travel] and Sandy MacPherson [Voyager Travel] and will take over the presidency with immediate effect.

As President, Mr Harding will represent ABTA on appropriate matters, at the highest level and his contacts will include ministers and government officials, representatives of overseas destinations and other industry leaders, the press and the public.

Votes received in the postal ballot were counted at 2.00pm today (7 May) and the result announced shortly afterwards.

Ian Reynolds, ABTA Chief Executive, said: “The President should be one who can represent the industry and command respect - both from within the Association and in the world outside - and John fulfils both these criteria admirably. We are delighted that he is taking over this important role and look forward to a successful year under his leadership”
