Outrigger Australia Expansion Continues

Outrigger Hotels & Resorts continues to expand its presence in Australia with the opening of the US$15M Outrigger Hervey Bay Resort in Queensland, the only marina/waterfront property in Hervey Bay.
As the region`s largest resort, Outrigger Hervey Bay Resort contains 166 one-, two- and three-bedroom suites, most of which are self-contained, with many featuring in-room spas and magnificent water views. Kitchens, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers are also available in most rooms.
The resort includes a 200-seat conference center, along with restaurants, a range of specialty shops, private barbecue and picnic facilities, a lagoon pool, gym and sauna, and other recreational facilities.
Outrigger Hervey Bay Resort is located within the area`s popular marina precinct and directly opposite World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. Its location makes it an ideal spot for visitors during the annual humpback whale-watching season, as the marina is the main departure point for tours and transfers to Fraser Island.

A comfortable three-hour drive from Brisbane, visitors can also take advantage of daily flights between the state capital and Hervey Bay, or take the high-speed train service from Brisbane to Maryborough, 21 miles south of Hervey Bay, with coach transfers.

Outrigger`s Vice President of Business Development, Bill Henderson, observed, “Outrigger Hervey Bay is our ninth property now open in Australia, and we are on track to operate 20 resorts throughout Australasia by 2005. We will open our first property in New Zealand later this year, and we currently have resorts open or under development in Port Douglas, Palm Cove, Cairns, Town of 1770, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, along with Kingscliff in New South Wales, Queenstown in New Zealand, Noumea in New Caledonia, and the Coral Coast in Fiji.

“It is particularly interesting to note the common experience of viewing `vacationing` humpback whales that will be shared by our guests at Outrigger Hervey Bay Resort in Australia and our guests in Hawaii, thousands of miles away!” Henderson added.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dave Lawrence, Outrigger`s Vice President and General Director for Australia, said, “There has been much excitement surrounding our opening here, and we look forward to adding our own special signature service that is synonymous with Outrigger`s idyllic waterfront resorts throughout the Pacific.”

The property is the second resort to be developed by FKP Ltd. and to carry the Outrigger name. FKP Ltd. also developed the luxury Outrigger Mooloolaba International Beach Resort on the Sunshine Coast, which opened in 2000.
Special opening rates are available until May 31 2003, excluding public and school holidays. Prices at Outrigger Hervey Bay start at AUD95 for a hotel room, AUD120 for a one bedroom, AUD160 for two bedrooms and AUD250 for three-bedroom suite.
