Choice Promotes Leadership Within

Silver Spring, MD (February 3, 2003) - Choice Hotels International announced today the promotions of Patrick Cimerola and Pat Murphy to vice president, human resources, and vice president, organizational development, diversity, and learning, respectively. Cimerola and Murphy report directly to Tom Mirgon, senior vice president of administration.

Cimerola, formerly Choice Hotels` director of human resources, rejoined Choice in January 2002 where he has played a valuable role in upgrading the array of services offered by Choice Hotels` human resources department. Under his leadership, the company has strengthened its human resources presence in its field offices, converted its human resource information systems to PeopleSoft, and is working to improve Choice Hotels` overall workforce diversity. Prior to joining Choice Hotels, Cimerola served as vice president of human resources for Capella Senior Living, division director of human resources for HCR Manor Care and regional human resources manager for Manor Care (formerly the parent company of Choice Hotels). A graduate of La Salle University, Cimerola also holds a Masters degree in administration from Central Michigan University.

Murphy joined Choice Hotels in December 1998 with more than 10 years of education and training experience and has contributed greatly to improving its organizational development and training capabilities. She established and opened the Choice Learning Center, guided the development of the Total Lodging By Choice course offered to new franchisees coming into the Choice Hotels system, and instituted Choice Hotels` signature management training class, Tools For Successful Management. She also successfully serves as director of the Choice Hotels Foundation and plays a leadership role in guiding the organization`s overall diversity efforts. Murphy formerly served as manager of instructional systems at Bell Atlantic/Verizon and branch chief for the Maryland State Department of Education. Murphy holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, M. Ed from Boston College and A. B. from Earlham College.

“Both Patrick and Pat have exhibit great leadership and commitment during their tenures with Choice Hotels,” said Mirgon. “They have worked effectively together and with leaders throughout the organization to enhance the work-life practices that make Choice Hotels an excellent place to work.”
