Travelodge Canada Appoints New Leader

Randy Royer, President of Royal Host Real Estate Investment Trust, which owns the Travelodge Master Franchise in Canada, announced today the appointment of Ms. Dorothy Dowling to the position of President and COO of Travelodge Canada. In her previous position as Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing with Travelodge Canada, Ms. Dowling was responsible for sales and marketing and franchise development.
“I am very proud to be making this announcement today,” Royer said. “Dorothy has been very instrumental in driving Travelodge Canada`s growth and industry leading results in the areas of ADR, Occupancy and RevPAR. I know her extensive knowledge of the brand and her strong vision for our future will propel Travelodge to new success in Canada.”


A 20-year veteran of the hospitality industry, Ms. Dowling has been associated with the Travelodge brand since 1992, holding various sales and marketing positions. Her marketing campaigns for Travelodge have won several industry awards. As architect of the Travelodge Miles program, Ms. Dowling created one of the most successful and beneficial rewards programs for frequent travelers. Ms. Dowling was honoured with the prestigious American Hotel Federation award for Best Practices in Guest Loyalty for Travelodge Miles. In 1998, Ms. Dowling was honoured by the Executive Women of New Jersey with a special “Salute to the Policy Makers” award.


A board member of the recently established Canadian Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association (HSMAI), Ms. Dowling was instrumental in organizing the Canadian Chapter and was elected President at their inaugural meeting in Toronto. Ms. Dowling holds a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo.


Travelodge Canada administers the Master License for Travelodge and Thriftlodge in Canada with more than 90 locations across the country. Travelodge Canada Corp. is a subsidiary of Royal Host Corp. based in Calgary, Alberta.


Royal Host Real Estate Investment Trust owns 36 hotels, manages 78 properties and franchises 91 locations for more than 16, 000 guestrooms in the mid-market to upscale segments.
