Sol Meliá Seeks New Markets In The Middle East

Sol Meliá has announced its participation in the 8th. Annual Arabian Travel Market to be held from 1st. to 4th. May in Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.


The company has rented an 80 metre squared stand which will represent the company’s most outstanding hotels, as well as those hotels located in destinations in and around the Middle East such as Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and, after the recent incorporation of the Meliá Riviera in Beirut, the Lebanon, amongst others.


According to the Vice President for the company’s European Resort Division, Marcello Pigozzo, who will be leading the Sol Meliá delegation in Dubai, “our debut at this important event confirms our firm commitment to opening up new markets and seeking out additional projects in the Mediterranean region and Middle East”.


The region, says Pigozzo, “together with major European cities, Latin America and the Caribbean, is one of the three priority growth objectives for Sol Meliá.


The maintenance of our leadership position in the Mediterranean and our positioning as the largest resort hotel company in the world, depends on us increasing and diversifying our hotel portfolio in the region. The recent addition of 8 hotels in Tunisia after the purchase of the Tryp hotel chain, as well as the affiliation of another 5 hotels in Morocco and 1 in Lebanon, confirm our commitment to achieving our objectives”.

Pigozzo concludes that, “increasing our presence in major cities in Europe and the Middle East through the addition of excellent city centre hotels is also amongst our current priorities”.


Sol Meliá currently provides more than 330 hotels in 30 countries on 4 continents, and has also signed agreements to add another 80 new hotels over the coming two years.


Market leader in Spain, the second largest hotel company in Europe and the tenth in the world, Sol Meliá was recently awarded the prize for the “Best Stand” at the FITUR 2001 Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid.
