With immediate effect, Protea Hotels has been appointed to manage and market the recently launched R45 million four star Peninsula Bay Hotel on the beachfront in the Strand, Cape Town.

To be known as the Protea Hotel Strand Beach, the new property will increase the group`s offering to over 90 hotels in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. Miso Markovina, Cape Regional Director of Protea Hotels says that Protea`s presence in the Strand is long overdue and believes that the new Protea will satisfy the high demand for beds in this area. “We have been looking at that location for a while now, and it`s been evident by the numerous inquiries from agents that the popularity of the Strand and Gordon`s Bay continues to increase. This hotel is only one year old, with four star quality and a location that can`t be beaten.”

With 96 rooms and 2 penthouse suites, the Protea Hotel Strand Beach is the only hotel in the area that can rightfully claim to being situated directly on the beach. All the rooms, except the standard rooms, include a mini kitchenette for a self-catering option. Facilities include the Maliblues restaurant and bar, a boardroom, international standard conference and banqueting services, a swimming pool and secure undercover parking. With over eight golf courses in close proximity to choose from and well over 50 wine farms on the famous Stellenbosch and Helderberg wine routes to visit, the Protea Hotel Strand Beach is the perfect location for both the business and leisure traveller - local and foreign.
 
Guy Stehlik, who assisted with the opening of the Premier Protea Hotel President in Bantry Bay, is the new General Manager of the Protea Hotel Strand Beach.

Stehlik wholeheartedly supports the Protea mission statement - `to take a hotel that can be managed and marketed better, and manage and market it better` - and echoes Markovina`s comments that there is a huge demand for hotel rooms in the Strand, particularly from the business sector.
