travel site backed by the world`s leading airlines, said today that its
selection of bargain-priced Web-only fares just got even bigger with the
addition of America West Airlines
as its newest Charter Associate.  America
West, which becomes Orbitz` 42nd airline charter associate, also signed a
letter of intent to use Orbitz` Supplier-Link technology that enables airlines
to bypass costly global distribution systems for ticket bookings.
 
“Orbitz was the first online travel agency to make it easy for travelers
to compare and buy webfares of many airlines, while increasing price
competition in the travel distribution industry,” said Jeff Katz
, Orbitz
president and CEO.  “Orbitz` new partnership with America West Airlines, one
of the nation`s leading low-cost carriers, makes it faster and more convenient
then ever for consumers to find great, low fares.  And at the same time,
America West will be able to benefit from Orbitz` advanced technology, which
makes it possible for us to offer the industry`s lowest distribution costs.”
 
Its charter associate partnerships enable Orbitz to offer customers the
widest selection of webfares available from any online agency, in addition to
published fares from 455 carriers.  Orbitz` growing list of airline, hotel and
car-rental charter associates now totals 54.
