Gemkow Appointment at Lufthansa

The committee of the board of directors proposes to the board of Lufthansa Cargo AG that Mr. Stephan Gemkow (43) is to be appointed as a management board member. As of 1st February 2004 Stephan Gemkow is to become successor to Heinz-Ludger Heuberg, who is moving to the board of managing directors at Thomas Cook AG. At Lufthansa Cargo AG Stephan Gemkow is to take over responsibility for the department of Finances and Personnel and at the same time the duties of Director of Labour Relations.

Stephan Gemkow is currently Director of Corporate Finances at Deutsche Lufthansa AG. In this role he reports to the Financial Executive Dr. Karl-Ludwig Kley. As Director of Corporate Finances he carries the responsibility for the treasury, the group`s financial activities and the company`s banking relations.

Gemkow was born in 1960 in L├╝beck. Follwing his training as a qualified banker he studied Business Administration in Germany and the USA. The graduate in Business Administration started his career in 1988 as a Management Consultant at BDO Deutsche Warentreuhand AG. Stephan Gemkow began his career at the Deutsche Lufthansa AG in October 1990 in the field of Corporate Organisation and Strategic Company Development in Cologne. In the summer of 1991 he became Area Sales Manager for south-west Germany.

In 1992 he moved as a member of traffic management to Frankfurt and there he was responsible for sales, the lounges and information services. As Area Sales Manager for Deutsche Lufthansa he worked from April 1994 until July 1997 in Washington DC, USA. In August 1997 Gemkow returned to Cologne, where he initially worked as Acting Manager and from December 1997 as Manager for Investor Relations. He was appointed Manager of Corporate Finances on 1st July 2001.
