Passengers Tested Negative for SARS

Cathay Pacific Airways was today informed by US medical authorities that a woman and child taken ill with a fever during a Cathay Pacific flight to Los Angeles have both tested negative for SARS.
Although the woman and her granddaughter developed a fever, which is regarded as one possible symptom of the disease, neither suffered from respiratory problems. There was therefore no risk to other passengers, the authorities say.
Neither the woman nor the child was found to have an abnormally high temperature when they passed health screening at Hong Kong International Airport prior to boarding CX882 on 25 May.

The child developed a temperature during the 12-hour flight and was later found to have swollen tonsils, which, the authorities say, could account for that. She has now recovered. The woman will remain in the hospital for medical care
