Spirit Airlines Joins BSP Canada

Spirit Airlines has joined the Canadian BSP now making it easier for Canadian travel agents to Catch the Spirit. Spirit’s full participation in the Canadian BSP completely automates the reservation and purchase process for Canadian travel professionals allowing travel agents to immediately realize their sales commission.

“We started in Detroit 11 years ago with just a few aircraft and have been able to grow in Detroit and throughout the system due to the support of Canadian travel professionals,” said Ned Homfeld, founder and chairman of Spirit Airlines. “Through the first half of the year, we achieved the ranking of the second largest carrier out of Detroit with an anticipated 1.3 million passengers carried in 2001 at Detroit. “System-wide, we anticipate carrying 3.75 million people in 2001.”

“The growing demand for our low-fare product has encouraged us to take this step with the Canadian BSP to make the process more travel agent friendly in Canada. We continue to streamline our system by making it even easier for Canadian travel agents to book our flights. In the past they’ve been able to use our website or toll-free number, but our full participation in the Canadian BSP allows our Canadian travel partners to book directly through the different reservation systems and realize their commissions immediately,” said Homfeld.

The Detroit gateway, which is one of the closest to Canada, has daily flights to Florida destinations of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm Beach as well as service to Myrtle Beach, S.C., NY/LaGuardia, Los Angeles and Oakland, Calif.

Bookings through GDS: Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre or Worldspan or the toll free reservations line, 1-800-772-7117, will earn 5% commission, and using the www.spiritair.com website will continue to earn 8%. Spirit Airlines has no commission caps.
