Spirit Airlines Announces Rene Visscher

Rene P. Visscher is onboard Spirit Airlines as the vice president of technical operations. To support Spirit’s continuing service expansion, Visscher will lead the low-fare specialist in air carrier maintenance and operations.
He brings to Spirit a vast knowledge of airline maintenance, operations and quality management. Throughout his career with several carriers, Visscher has contributed to an increase in on-time airline performance.


“We welcome Rene to the Spirit executive team,” said Ned Homfeld, Spirit’s founder and chairman. “With more than 20 years of industry experience, Rene will lead all aspects of Spirit’s maintenance and technical operations. He will play a vital role in increasing Spirit’s on-time performance as we continue to expand our service and focus on passenger satisfaction.”


After graduating from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colo. with a bachelor of science degree in operations management, Visscher later pursued his M.B.A. from City University in Seattle, Wash. In 1987, Visscher joined Continental Airlines as the director of line maintenance. Visscher returned to Seattle in 1991 to join Alaska Airlines, where he served as assistant vice president of engineering and maintenance operations.


In 1995, Visscher increased his responsibilities, as the vice president of maintenance and engineering for Trans World Airlines. Expanding his area of expertise in 1998, Visscher was named vice president of technical operations for Emery Worldwide Airlines, an air cargo carrier. Most recently, Visscher provided consulting services for an aerospace operations consulting firm, R & K Associates, providing consulting services for technical operation solutions, major repair and overhaul of aircraft and handling systems.


Visscher’s extensive knowledge and expertise will greatly contribute to Spirit’s future growth in the areas of maintenance, operations and on-time performance.
