Southwest Airlines Reports July Traffic Up 14.2 Percent

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 3.9 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in July 2000, a 14.2 percent increase from the 3.4 billion RPMs flown in July 1999. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 11.9 percent to 5.0 billion from the July 1999 level of 4.5 billion. The load factor for the month was 77.1 percent, up 1.5 points from 1999.

For the first seven months of 2000, Southwest flew 24.3 billion RPMs, compared to the 20.9 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 1999, an increase of 16.1 percent. Available seat miles increased 13.7 percent to 33.9 billion from the 1999 level of 29.9 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 71.6 percent, up 1.5 points from the same period last year.
