Southwest Airlines Reports November Traffic

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 2,539.2 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in November 1998, a 7.9 percent increase over the 2,354.0 million flown in November of last year. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 6.6 percent to 3,962.5 million from the November 1997 level of 3,717.0 million. The load factor for the month was 64.1 percent, compared to 63.3 percent for the same period of a year ago.

Herbert D. Kelleher, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, stated: “We are extremely pleased with our November revenue results. Our load factor of 64.1 percent was in line with historical levels and above last year’s load factor of 63.3 percent.”


For the eleven months ended November 30, 1998, Southwest flew 28,810.5 million RPMs, compared with the 25,959.3 million recorded for the same period of 1997, an increase of 11.0 percent. Available seat miles increased 6.7 percent to 43,381.9 million from the 1997 level of 40,658.3 million. The year-to-date load factor was 66.4 percent, up 2.6 points from the same period last year.
