America West Airlines announced today the
election of Linda M. Mitchell as vice president and general counsel.  Mitchell
will oversee all of the legal affairs of America West Airlines and The Leisure
Company.  Both companies are wholly owned subsidiaries of America West
Holdings Corporation.

“Linda`s extensive experience with America West and in private practice
make her the ideal candidate for leading the legal team,” said Stephen
Johnson, senior vice president and chief administrative officer.  “Linda`s
promotion is testament both to her contribution to the company and to the
quality of the leadership team we are building at America West.”
 
Mitchell has served as senior director of legal affairs for America West
since 1996.  Prior to joining America West, Mitchell was associated with
Squire Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. in Phoenix.  Mitchell`s experience includes
practice with the law firm of Hopkins & Sutter in Chicago and service as a
military intelligence officer in the United States Army.
 
Mitchell earned her juris doctorate degree from Harvard University in
1987.  She holds a master`s of business administration from Lake Forest
College in Lake Forest, Ill., and a bachelor`s degree from St. Lawrence
University in Canton, N.Y.
 
America West Airlines, the nation`s ninth-largest carrier, serves more
