Federal Aviation Administration Closes Settlement Agreement With America West

America West Holdings Corporation
(NYSE: AWA) announced today that it had been advised by the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) that the Agency has determined that America West
Airlines, Inc. has fully complied with the terms of the Settlement Agreement
made between the Airline and the FAA on July 14, 1998.  As a result of this
action, the FAA has forgiven compromise civil penalties which could have been
assessed under the Settlement Agreement.

America West Holdings Corporation is an aviation and travel services
company with 1998 sales of $2.0 billion.  Wholly owned subsidiary America West
Airlines is the nation`s ninth largest carrier serving more than 90
