Alitalia And Boeing Reached An Agreement

This evening Alitalia and Boeing reached an agreement for the acquisition of six B777-200ER aircraft, plus options for six new latest version B777-300ER and six other rolling options. All aircraft will be equipped with General Electric engines. The 777s will replace a previous order for five B747-400 plus three options.

This decision follows the end of the alliance with KLM.

The choice of acquiring B747-400 aircraft was in fact made in light of the alliance with KLM, since the Dutch carrier operates several aircraft of this type.

This decision will allow Alitalia a greater “commonality” of the long-range fleet and will allow more flexibility in the developing of the network.
