American Airlines Reports March Traffic

March On-Time Dependability Improves Year Over Year


FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines reported its systemwide traffic in March decreased 12.1 percent from March 2001, on a capacity decrease of 14.3 percent. The system load factor was 74.4 percent, up 1.9 points from a year ago.


American’s on-time performance, reported to the Department of Transportation, was 80.4 percent, up 6.2 points from March 2001. The airline’s completion factor - the number of flights flown expressed as a percentage of the number of flights scheduled - was 98.5, compared to 95.7 in March 2001.


International traffic in March was down 18.1 percent while international capacity was down 19.6 percent. Domestic traffic was down 9.6 percent year over year on a capacity decrease of 12.2 percent.


American boarded 8.3 million passengers in March, down 12.2 percent from a year ago.
