United Airlines` Traffic Drops 16.7 Percent, but Load Factor Rises to 72.0%


CHICAGO, May 6, 2002—United Airlines` (NYSE: UAL) total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) fell 16.7 percent in April vs. the comparable month in 2001, on a capacity decrease of 17.7 percent.  However, the carrierå‘s passenger load factor rose to 72.0 percent from 71.2 percent a year ago.
“We continue to be pleased with our strong operational performance,” said Rono Dutta, United’s president.  “On April 23 we broke our long-standing company records for on-time departures and tied the record for on-time arrivals.  On that day 93.8 percent of our flights arrived early, on time or within 14 minutes of schedule (the Department of Transportation yardstick).  We applaud our employees who are clearly coming through for our customers day after day.”
