Equant has been chosen as the information technology and business partner for totaljourney.com, the first integrated online travel planning and booking service dedicated to the UK.
Equant will leverage its Internet booking engine to enable online travel planning including rail, air, car and hotel booking in the UK via the totaljourney web site.
A 50:50 joint venture between Railtrack Travel Ltd. and FirstGroup plc, the UK-based international passenger transport company, totaljourney will be launched on 22nd June with the transfer of 500,000 users from railtrack.co.uk, the second most popular travel site in the UK. Powered by Equant`s Internet booking engine, this new website will enable travellers to plan and arrange every aspect of their journeys from beginning to end, including checking availability and prices and completing rail, air, car and hotel reservations.
Equant`s technology will enable totaljourney to deliver a leading-edge U.K. rail timetable, fares and ticketing system. The service will also provide related products and services such as town and city guides, local entertainment news (including online booking for theatre, concerts and other events), maps, taxis, weather and books.
Equant`s Internet booking engine, i-traveldirect, will be customised to accommodate the unique requirements for the solution. In addition to rail information and bookings, totaljourney will also offer air, car and hotel bookings through a link from i-traveldirect into Galileo International`s GDS.
