Swine flu sneaks into Jamaica

The number of swine flu cases in the Caribbean grew over the weekend, with Jamaica adding to the list. The Jamaica government on Saturday said the two imported cases of Influenza A (H1N1) have been identified but quickly contained.

The persons from St. Andrew and St. Catherine had reportedly traveled to New York where it is assumed they caught the virus. Both persons have recovered satisfactorily, government said.

Jamaica`s latest reported cases adds to four in Cuba, one in Puerto Rico and two in the Dominican Republic, as reported by the World Health Organization.

Some 53 countries have officially reported 15,510 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection, including 99 deaths. The U.S. now leads with 7,927 reported cases.
