Fairmont unveils Oman plans

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts continues to expand globally, announcing that it will soon manage Fairmont The Wave, Muscat, a luxury resort development located in Oman. With an expected construction phase of 3-4 years, the new resort development will be located on the picturesque coast of the Gulf of Oman and marks the brand’s first project within the Sultanate.  The project is a joint venture between Oman’s Waterfront Investments, National Investment Funds Company, and the UAE-based Majid Al Futtaim Group.

Fairmont The Wave will be a mixed-use beachfront property located within Oman’s leading tourism and residential development, which will allow guests and visitors access to an extensive coastline and exquisite gardens.  Positioned next to a Greg Norman-designed 18-hole championship golf course, the resort will offer more than 300 guestrooms and suites, gourmet restaurants, meeting and leisure facilities, a Willow Stream Spa as well as Fairmont branded residences and Fairmont Heritage Place.

“Selecting the right partners and projects is key to how we view developing our portfolio and brand in the Middle East,” said Tom Storey, President, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. “With other hotel projects currently underway in dynamic locations like Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, Fairmont is poised to offer a truly distinctive product and experience to travelers to the region.”

The joint venture will bring Fairmont’s management expertise to Fairmont The Wave, and reinforce the strong and respected reputation associated with both parties.  “Fairmont is the perfect partner for this project,” stated Nick Smith, CEO, The Wave, Muscat.  “As a leading global luxury hotel management company, with over a century of experience, they bring a new and exciting dimension to the world of Omani hospitality.”

Fairmont The Wave is the most recent project to be announced by Fairmont in the Middle East and Africa and joins other future developments in the region including Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club (2008), Fairmont Nile City, Cairo (2008); The Makkah Clock Royal Tower, A Fairmont Hotel, Saudia Arabia (2008), Fairmont Palm Island, Dubai (2009); Fairmont Zimbali, South Africa (2009); a Fairmont hotel at the Marina City Development in Abu Dhabi (2011) and Fairmont Kingdom of Sheba, Dubai (2011).
