Maharashtra launches luxury train

The world’s newest luxury train experience, the Deccan Odyssey will be available for exclusive charter in April 2008.  The train is a joint venture between the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and the Indian Railways.  Fit for royalty the train is known for it epic seven-day journey through Maharashtra.

Responding to international demand, the Deccan Odyssey will be available for tailor-made trips taking groups wherever they choose in India, starting and finishing at the UNESCO heritage site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in Mumbai.  Guests can travel South from Mumbai to Hampi and Kerala in four nights or to the North on a seven-night journey to Aurangabad, Jaipur, Agra, Delhi and Varanasi.

The train can be chartered for a minimum of three nights for at least 60 travellers though it can accommodate up to 96 in total.  Off season rates apply for chartered trips. Onboard facilities include two gourmet restaurants, a spa, gym, business centre and conference room.  MTDC can offer assistance tailor-making itineraries and arranging all necessary applications to the respective railway authorities.  A minimum of four weeks notice is required to obtain all clearances and to finalise schedules.
