Hotel boom in Bermuda
Bermuda Department of Tourism is announcing the opening of two new luxury resorts and the development of an additional three, five-star properties in 2008, introducing a further 1100 rooms to the island.
Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa is the centrepiece of Tucker’s Point Club, Bermuda’s first luxury resort, private club and residential community in more than 35 years. Due to open April 2009, the British design of the 88 guest rooms & suites blends distinctive artwork, bespoke furnishings and refined finishing touches with an elegant, relaxing estate. In addition to a luxurious spa, two pools and a fitness centre, guests will be able to take advantage of the Tucker’s Point Golf, Beach and Tennis Club featuring a further two fresh water pools, a championship golf course and a beautiful private pink-sand beach. Delicious gourmet delights will be on offer at the three restaurants and two bars.
The Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa is Bermuda’s newest boutique hotel with a scheduled opening date of January 2008. The resort will feature luxurious one and two bedroom suites. Located directly on the harbour, the resort has exceptional views of the city of Hamilton and the Great Sound. Each suite has a fully equipped kitchen, a generous bathroom, a well appointed living and bedroom area and all of the services of a luxury resort. A private taxi is available from the resort to the golf course and into Hamilton. The hotel will also feature a full service spa and two restaurants.
In addition to the Newstead a further three five star properties are set to begin development in 2008 bringing an additional 700 rooms to the island.
Southlands - Has a local ownership team managed by world-renowned Jumeirah Hotel Group, located on the South Shore adjacent to the Marley Beach property. The beach property will consist of 325 rooms, approximately 1000 beds and will offer both hotel rooms and fractional ownership.

Atlantic -The Ritz-Carlton Company is suggested to be the operator of this new development. The property will consist of 220 hotel suites, approximately 706 beds and will also feature a residential component.
Par-la-Ville - Due to be built at the Par-la-Ville parking lot in the city of Hamilton and also managed by The Ritz-Carlton Company. The property will consist of 152 rooms and approximately 304 beds offering both hotel rooms and fractional ownership.
Three current hotels sites are also set to begin redevelopment in 2008. These include Club Med in St George’s, the Wyndham and Lantana. The redevelopment of these properties will bring a further 530 rooms to the island.
Club Med - Bazarian International has been given the governmental approval to develop this site in St George’s with its golf course and spacious beach. St Regis has been charged with the responsibility to mange this resort. The property will consist of hotel rooms and fractional ownership and will bring an additional 210 rooms, 420 beds to the island.
Wyndham - Another mixed use property, the management company has not yet been finalised. A further 250 rooms, 500 beds will be brought to the island.
Lantana - Proposed development to have a Residence Club feel about it. The unnamed as yet, developers have had experience building five-star golf/country clubs in Europe. The property will bring 70 rooms, 140 beds to the island for residential use.
Lastly, a number of the existing hotels on the island are currently enjoying redevelopment and expansion in order to increase accommodation on the island.
Harmony Club - The Bermuda Resort Hotels have plans for major development at this property, increasing the inventory by almost 30 rooms transforming it to an all suites hotel. The Hampton Inns company is being looked at to put its branding on the facility.
Ariel Sands - A combination of hotel rooms and fractional ownership is to be developed. The inventory will increase by 60 rooms, 120 beds.
Coco Reefs - Beach front development is in the planning stages with a residential component adding a further 66 rooms, 132 beds.
Fairmont Southampton - A major development with a fractional ownership component is planned to commence in the next 12 months with an increase of 54 rooms, 108 beds.
The Reefs - The development of 19 fractional ownership units on the property has begun and is due to be finished in 2008.
Belmont - the sister hotel to the Newstead will have 50 hotel units built. Construction to begin January 2008.
