Press: Italian bank could buy Alitalia

An unnamed Italian investment bank is working on the formation of a wide consortium of investors to purchase the troubled airline Alitalia, the daily Il Sole 24 Ore said without giving a source. The project could involve the Management & Capitali fund, controlled by businessman Carlo De Benedetti, Banca Intesa SpA, and the airline Air One as well as other businessmen and investment funds, it said.

The government intends to sell a 30.1 percent stake in Alitalia to private investors, who will then have to launch a bid to buy out minority shareholders.
