Virgin Atlantic profits up 107%

Virgin Atlantic said Monday its fiscal year pretax pre-items profit more than doubled to 41.6 million British pounds, from 20.1 million. The airline’s new upper class suite has helped boost passengers, with a 10.1% rise in business travelers compared with the year before.

The airline’s revenues for the 12 months to the end of February also grew by 17% to 1.91 billion British pounds, from 1.63 billion.

The number of passengers the airline carried rose to a record 4.9 million.

Virgin Atlantic also said it was also brining in a new route to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
