Press: Schipol privatisation opposed by airlines

The privatisation of Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is being opposed by 78 airlines using the airfield, among them Air France-KLM, a report in Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant said. The airlines are said to be very worried by a privatised Schiphol inflating prices and tariffs, which the airlines would then have to compensate for by raising ticket prices, said the newspaper.

The airlines sent a letter to all parties in the Senate, which is expected to vote on the privatisation of Schiphol tomorrow, De Volkskrant added.

According to Barin, an organisation representing airlines and quoted by the newspaper, some airlines - such as Lufthansa - are already moving operations away from Schiphol due to high tariffs, the newspaper said.
