Peninsula spa set to open

The Peninsula Spa by ESPA is opening on 2 May, 2006 at The Peninsula Hong Kong.  The new 12,000 sq feet (1,116 sq m) facility occupies two floors of the historic hotel and offers sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and 14 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, creating an oasis of calm in the city.

Designed by Henry Leung of Chhada Siembieda Leung Ltd, the spa features 14 treatment rooms and incorporates six rooms with floor-to-ceiling harbour views; two “spas within a spa” - Private Suites with harbour views for VIPs and couples; Thermal Suites overlooking the harbour with hamman-style steam rooms, saunas and aromatherapy “experience showers”; tea lounge and harbour-view relaxation rooms.

Facilities at The Peninsula Spa are cutting edge. Treatment rooms are designed to eliminate sound and competing scents from other rooms and the air-conditioning systems are isolated to minimise potential distractions. The rooms are all multifunctional to accommodate both facial and body treatments.  Treatments are performed on the world’s first Clodagh Gemini fully automated beds (designed by leading designer Clodagh in partnership with Oakworks) and the male and female relaxation rooms are furnished with custom-made oak and steel beds with personal music systems and reading lamps.

ESPA has created a selection of “Peninsula Ceremonies”, signature body treatments that reflect a fusion of Oriental, Ayurvedic and European therapies, which are delivered by multicultural and multilingual therapists. In addition to face and body treatments, the Spa offers speciality treatments to address specific areas of concern. To complete the hotel’s spa project, one of Hong Kong’s leading hair salons will open in summer 2006 as part of the complex, providing hair, manicure and pedicure services.

The opening of The Peninsula Spa coincides with the launch of ‘Peninsula Wellness’ - a lifestyle programme incorporating healthy organic meals under the “Naturally Peninsula” food range; a natural toiletry range called “Simply Peninsula”; mood music with Peninsula Spa CDs; and a Guest Nutrition Consultant for personal consultations. The Wellness programme will be rolled out at all Peninsula Hotels during the next 12 months.
