Lower tax at Malaysia’s budget terminal

Malaysian airport tax for international departures will be lower at the low-cost terminal than at others at KLIA—Kuala Lumpur’s International Airport. The airport tax for international departures at the new low-cost carrier terminal will be 35 rgt, 10 rgt less than that at the KL International Airport (KLIA), Bernama reported, citing Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy.

Chan said the airport tax for domestic destinations will remain at six rgt.

“The government has made a decision on the passenger service charges or airport tax for the LCCT as this is to encourage more people and airlines to operate in the LCCT,” he said.

On the proposal by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to increase KLIA’s airport tax to 65 rgt from 45 rgt, Chan said the government has yet to make a decision.

“We will look into it together with the financial restructuring plan of MAHB, so it needs a little bit more time,” he said.
